Use manufacturer cutting data and stay within machine, tool and workholding limits.

Calculation check: RPM, IPM and MRR are calculated directly from the values entered. Example: 650 SFM, 0.500 in, 4 flutes and 0.002 IPT = 4,966 RPM and 39.7 IPM.

Calculation method

How this calculator works

RPM = SFM × 12 ÷ (π × Diameter)IPM = RPM × Flutes × Chip LoadMRR = DOC × WOC × IPM

Values are deterministic outputs from the inputs shown above; cutting recommendations are not inferred.

What the inputs mean

SFM is surface speed, IPT is chip load per tooth, and IPM is linear table feed. The calculator multiplies chip load by effective teeth and spindle RPM to calculate feed rate.

Why this is a starting point, not a recommendation engine

Correct speeds and feeds depend on the exact tool, work material, coating, engagement, rigidity and machine limits. This version calculates the relationships without pretending one universal material preset is correct.
