Use manufacturer cutting data and stay within machine, tool and workholding limits.

Calculation check: Drilling feed is calculated as IPM = RPM × IPR. Example: 250 SFM, 0.500 in and 0.006 IPR = 1,910 RPM and 11.46 IPM.

Calculation method

How this calculator works

RPM = SFM × 12 ÷ (π × Drill Diameter)IPM = RPM × Feed per Revolution

Values are deterministic outputs from the inputs shown above; cutting recommendations are not inferred.

Drilling speed and feed calculation

Drilling commonly expresses feed as inches per revolution. Once spindle speed is known, multiplying RPM by IPR gives the programmed linear feed in IPM.

Before using the result

Verify SFM and feed per revolution for the exact drill geometry, diameter, material, coolant strategy and hole conditions. Deep-hole cycles and interrupted cuts can require different parameters.
